Convoy of Hope

As most of us know, Convoy of Hope’s (COH) world headquarters is located right here in Springfield. Many of us know the vast extent of work this organization does including disaster relief, children’s feeding initiative and their community outreach programs. On May 7, 2016, we HHS grads will have the unique opportunity to help participate in a Springfield north side (Hillcrest district) outreach program conducted by Convoy of Hope at the Ozark Empire Fair Complex for the benefit of local Springfieldians. If you have not witnessed one of these outreach efforts, you might like to spend 3 minutes watching the video below from a recent Kansas City outreach. This tells the story better than mere words.

As you can imagine, it takes an army of volunteers to help organize and to conduct such a massive effort but the result for the honored guests and for the volunteers alike is quite rewarding.

Several of our HHS ‘62 classmates have made comments in the past asking what can we do to help with the disadvantaged students and families in the Hillcrest area. This outreach seems like a golden opportunity for us to get involved and to help make a difference. There are two ways we can help:

  1. Donate financially.

  2. Donate time. For those willing to work on the day of the event, the “boots on the ground” people are very important and there is a job for everyone.

Many local area churches have taken up the call to supply volunteers. If you are interested in participating in that way, you might contact your church to see if you will fit in through their efforts.

If any of us are interested in either donating our money or our time, we can contact Jaimie Trussell, Senior Director - Development (also a former Hillcrest graduate) at COH by calling her at (417) 818-9090.
